Network monitoring and alerts using Nagios and Cacti is well tested and proven. As open source technology it’s also very cost effective and feature rich in comparison to traditional proprietary solutions.

Alerts can be sent in real time via email, text message or voice calls. The sophistication of monitoring goes beyond simple ‘ping’ testing to monitor specific ports within applications to elevate false results, where servers are still responding to pings but applications and databases have stopped functioning.
